Dog Grooming and Dog Grooming
Tools
Dogs are a lot like people in that every one has his or her own personality, likes and dislikes. Dog grooming
can bring out the best or worst in your dog.
Bathing Your Dog

INDOOR / OUTDOOR PET SPRAYER
One of the most common questions from people with dogs is how often to bathe them. It is generally believed that
a once a month bath is enough to keep most dogs clean and healthy. Bathing a dog once a week or more often can
upset the balance of oils in their skin; this can cause dry skin, itching, and ultimately might result in a nasty
infection. If you are in doubt, ask your veterinarian how often your dog needs bathing.
Dog Grooming Tools
Among your basic dog grooming tools should be a non-detergent shampoo for your dog. Most shampoos made for
humans are not good for us and even worse for our dogs! Keep the shampoo out of his eyes, talk to your dog and tell
him what a good boy he is as you massage his coat and skin. Make it a pleasant experience!
A good brush is another of your dog grooming tools that depends on the type of coat she has. A soft brush will
do a good job on a short-haired dog while a firmer brush with longer bristles is essential longer coats.
Long-haired dogs usually need daily brushing to prevent tangles and matting while dogs with shorter coats can be
brushed once a week. Most dogs truly enjoy being brushed, though, so aside from their grooming needs you can brush
them anytime you like. Brushing also strengthens the bond between you and your dog and as an added bonus, the more
you brush the less your dog will shed!
Deshedding Tool
This is a must have for anyone who is tired of their carpets furniture and clothes being covered in pet
hair.
A deshedding tool gets right down into the dense undercoat and removes the dead hair.
Reduces shedding by up to 80%. This is a very effective tool and on eo the most popluar brands is the Furminator.
Nail Clipping

It is a rare dog that enjoys having their nails clipped. Some dogs will tolerate it patiently but most despise
it and will try to escape at any cost. If your dog is too strong or you cannot control her you should probably let
a veterinarian technician do this chore. If you can control him, be sure not to cut into the pink part of the nail.
This is painful and will result in profuse bleeding. You may want to try a small sanding tool made specifically for
dogs but these never fail to send dogs running for the nearest escape route! The best way to get a dog to accept
nail clipping is to do one at a time, praising him each time and giving her a break in between.
Cleaning You Dogs Ears
A very important part of grooming is the ears, havens for bacteria and bugs. Do NOT use cotton swabs, as a
sudden movement by your dog can result in injury. A thin, soft cloth that you’ve dampened or added a little mineral
oil to is the best way to clean out a dog’s ear. You won’t have much trouble with this type of grooming, as nearly
every dog enjoys having the insides of their ears rubbed!
Proper grooming tools, patience and a lot of praise will make grooming your dog an easy and pleasant time for
you both.
